• support for the Master Section and Main Mixer Channels in both Reason 6 and Reason Essentials.
• Default mappings for the new effect units in Reason 6 – The Alligator, The Pulveriser, and The Echo. I recommend using the factory preset GS-3 as a good starting point for these devices.

Get the latest version from the Instrumental Download Page, unpack it, run the script for your OS, (re)start Reason/Record, and you’re good to go.

Game Rules

• The Möbius board is divided into rows and columns. The rows can slide left and right. The columns can slide up and down.
• In Loop Mode, each row and column is connected to itself to form a loop.
• In Möbius Mode, each row and column has been twisted to form a Möbius strip – the image on each strip flips over as it crosses the edge of the screen!
• Every move is reversible. It is always possible to unscramble the picture!

To use it: plug it in, select the iRIG MIDI from Instrument’s destination list, and you’re away. Easy as that.

You can use the IRIG MIDI to connect to hardware synths, or even directly to a computer’s MIDI ports.

If you are using Instrumental in a performance situation, I would recommend using wired MIDI instead of Wi-FI, so that there is no chance of radio interference causing latency in the middle of your performance!

The iRIG MIDI includes a micro-USB port so you  can keep your iPad powered while also using wired MIDI. This is not possible when you’re using the iPad Camera Connection Kit and a standard USB MIDI Adapter.

Using a USB MIDI adaptor such as the M-Audio 1-In/1-Out USB Bus-Powered MIDI Interface you can use Instrumental to control anything with a MIDI interface, including another USB-MIDI adaptor connected to a computer.

It’s also worth nothing that using wired MIDI in a performance situation guarantees you won’t have any problems with intermittent Wi-Fi interference.

I love the anachronism of using a 21st century iPad to directly control 1980s synthesiser hardware. Now all I need is a cathedral-size pipe organ, and a MIDI-controlled steam-powered robot to play it with .

Here’s me attempting to play the first section using Instrumental’s Wicki-Hayden keyboard. I’ve set the surface to display D Minor to help keep me oriented.

This allows you to connect standard USB-MIDI devices to your iPad, which can then be controlled with Instrumental. If you use a USB-MIDI adapter, you can connect Instrumental to anything with real MIDI plugs!

Only USB devices that implement the standard USB-MIDI protocols will be recognised by iOS — this is outside of Instrumental’s control. If a USB-MIDI device works on your computer without needing custom drivers, then it will probably work with the iPad.

For testing, I have been using the “M-Audio Uno 1-in/1-out USB Bus-Powered MIDI Interface” that is available on the Apple Store. I was even able to connect this to the MIDI interface on my Edirol-PCR, and control Reason from Instrumental entirely through cables!

Setting this up is easy — plug everything together, and press the Instrumental TX/RX button. This shows the list of available MIDI destinations; any MIDI ports provided by USB will be listed here; select it and you’re away.

I recommend creating an Instrumental Control Map that lists and labels all the MIDI messages supported by each device; it makes life much easier and allows you to forget the details of MIDI so you can concentrate on making music.

Apple normally take around a week to approve a new build, so Instrumental 1.1.0 will probably be available around July 5th.

Update: July 1st – Apple have been quicker than normal; the 1.1.0 update will be  available from today.
